Professor Gordon Ferns

Professor of Medical Education and Metabolic Medicine
Professor Ferns is currently Professor of Medical Education and Metabolic Medicine at the University of Sussex and Honorary Consultant at Brighton & Sussex Medical School where he is Deputy Dean. He has been treating dyslipidaemias for more than 30 years. After qualifying he held a Alwyn Bursary and Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship. He held a British Heart Foundation-American Heart Association reciprocal Fellowship in Seattle, USA.
On returning to the UK he worked within the William Harvey Research Institute as a Senior Fellow. He was appointed to the inaugural Chair of Metabolic Medicine at the University of Surrey, where he was Dean of Medicine. Professor Ferns has more than 500 papers on lipid metabolism and nutrition. He has also been Chief Investigator on several trials of lipid lowering medication.
