SCVC was founded in 2006 by cardiologists Edward Leatham and Peter Clarkson, based on the concept that in the fast-moving area of cardiovascular medicine there needed to be an easily accessible centre of excellence in the South East of England, positioned outside hospitals. It brings together a multidisciplinary team of professionals and administration required for modern care.
Evidence proves that the earlier a patient at risk from heart disease, cancer and other common medical conditions can be identified, the more effective the prevention strategies become – yet much of healthcare around us remains largely reactive, not proactive.
At SCVC we have built a team of experienced professionals equipped with the latest advanced imaging, diagnostics and communications. Our patients will appreciate the benefits of their consultant and team working within a clinical diagnostic centre (CDC+) which has better facilities and organisation than most hospital cardiac departments.

Every patient caller is appointed a dedicated patient care coordinator (PCC) to manage their entire episode of care, including all aspects of scheduling, accounting, credit control, medical correspondence and questions related to tests undertaken at SCVC and VCL.
Our PCCs also collect all feedback and quality audit data and have to present quality, activity and outcome results alongside our senior nurses and management team at our quarterly medical advisory meeting, chaired by the Medical Director. It creates wonderful training for our PCCs and a management structure that is fully engaged in quality and care – so often lacking elsewhere.

Our consultants are all senior and highly experienced medically qualified experts in their field. They work, or have worked within the NHS across the region, as well as form our medical faculty. Most of our experts operate their own independent medical practice and use the one stop facilities at SCVC, alongside a wider group of healthcare professionals and sub-specialists based in one location. This unique ‘chambers style’ approach within one specialist organisation promotes expert opinion from subspecialty consultants as well as a wider range of specialist healthcare options for our patients.
