The Virtual Catheter Lab
In the Virtual Cath Laboratory we use the combination of Cardiac CT Angiography (CCTA) and functional testing - either CT-FFR (Heartflow) or Dobutamine Stress Echo to ensure the Cardiologist can advise their patient with all relevant data on their desktop - as if they were sitting in their own hospital's Catheter laboratory. This saves time and unneccessary investigations.

Coronary artery disease causing angina and heart attacks remains a major cause of mortality and a common cause of chest symptoms. Until recently invasive coronary angiography was required to diagnose this potentially lethal heart disease. Using the latest technology combined with our Cardiology/Radiology MDT approach termed "The Guildford protocol" many of our patients avoid invasive angiography by having a Cardiac CT angiogram instead. Where necessary additional functional tests such as CT-FFR, Stress ECG, CMRI and DSE provide our referring Cardiologists with all the information they need to decide whether to schedule an invasive Coronary angiogram and/or coronary intervention.
CTFFR is a technique used to determine whether a possible coornary narrowing is likely to be causing coronary flow limitation and thus potentially requires a stent.
If tested positive in our Virtual Catheter lab we can then arrange an invasive angiogram and coronary intervention at one of our centres of excellence.
Invasive angiography requires hospital admission, use of an Interventional catheter laboratory, arterial puncture and involves small risks of serious complications thus should ideally be used to confirm non invasive findings and the diagnosis before treatment of any serious narrowing by fitting a stent- a small tubular lining or scaffold used to hold a blocked coronary artery open.
Because both coronary angiography and functional assessment can now be acquired by non-intrusive CT imaging, with results presented to the Cardiologist using our 'Virtual catheter lab', it is possible to identify more accurately which patients require admission to hospital for coronary revascularisation.

The Virtual Cather lab is a service we offer for referrals to our outpatients and rapid access chest pain clinics.
For patients without symptoms who have concerns we offer Heartscreen - a range of tests without consultation, including Calcum scoring.
As shown in the table below Heartscreen+ ranges from our starter Bronze right up to a sophisticated Heartscreen+ Platinum offering state of the art Calcium scoring used to detect coronary heart disease years before symptoms develop.

GP and Physician referrals..
Doctors can refer their patient's to our Rapid Access Chest Pain clinic (if symptoms of angina) or for a clinical opinion with a referral letter or our encrypted digital medical referral form however similar healthscreen services may also be booked for asymptomatic patients by the patient themself.
