HeartScreen+ Gold is the most comprehensive sequence of screening tests available without using ionizing radiation and an ideal combination for people who seek peace of mind about coronary artery disease, cardiovascular fitness and other forms of heart disease. The package includes an exercise ECG test where we assess your heart's capacity to exercise and presence of any major coronary artery narrowing (or stenosis).

We recognise that there there are many valve and heart muscle conditions such as Aortic and Mitral valve disease that can cause no symptoms or ECG changes for many years. Heart Screen + Silver is aimed at picking these up as well by combining Heartscreen+ Bronze with a detailed heart assessment using ultrasound or Screening Echocardiography.

Want to know more details?
All of our Heartscreens involve a patient questionnaire, nurse assessment, a blood test and 12 lead ECG.
All are reported by an experienced Consultant Cardiologist so we feel that our Healthscreen patient benefit from having an expert eye look over their data and individual 'situation' without the need for potentially costly consultation.
Our Heartscreen plus Consultant report (hence Heartscreen+) will therefore help detect cardiovascular problems that may not necessarily be causing major symptoms .
What does it entail?
Heartscreen+ Gold involves more tests that cannot always be scheduled the same day so you may need to attend our Guildford test centre on more than one occasion
Once you have scheduled the appointments by either calling us, or booking direct (see below) you will be sent details on when and where they will take place.
On arrival at our test centre you will need to complete our Registration form and Patient Questionnaire (unless already done). You will be asked whether your wish to have any extra blood tests done such as a Prostate screen (PSA), Vit D level, Thyroid check, or HbA1c/ Blood Sugar testing for Diabetes (these would cost extra).
You will be shown into the ECG room and the Cardiac Nurse will take down your details and measure your Blood Pressure as well as take blood from a vein in your arm.
You will then be asked to remove any clothing over your chest and electrodes connected to your chest.
The ECG will be acquired over a few minutes and forwarded electronically to the reporting Consultant Cardiologist who will issue a report. You can ask to have the print out of the ECG and report in due course either by email or post.
You will then move into our Echocardiography room- either the same day or on a different day where you will have the detailed ultrasound examination by a trained echocardiographer.
You will then need to move to our Exercise test room (possibly on another day) for the final part involving a full 12 lead ECG during exercise. The test involves walking on our treadmill while connected to ECG and Blood Pressure equipment. Every 3 minutes the treadmill will be sped up or an incline introduced creating a gradual increase in Cardiac workload.
The test can detect important coronary narrowing that may for example mean you would then be referred on for more detailed tests (angiography) to find out whether a Coronary stent or Bypass operation are recommended, even without any symptoms.
All the results will be reviewed before issue of a report by the Cardiologist.
What can Gold miss?
The resting ECG and Echocardiogram are often completely normal in patients who have severe obstructive coronary artery disease, changing only after a heart attack or damage has occured. In addition the Exercise ECG may be normal until advanced stages of coronary narrowing, so even our Heart screen+ Gold cannot pick up non-obstructive coronary artery disease that is detected by more sophisticated testing such as those used in Healthscreen+ Platinum.
As shown in the table below Heartscreen+ ranges from our starter Bronze right up to a sophisticated Heartscreen+ Platinum offering state of the art Calcium scoring used to detect coronary heart disease years before symptoms develop.
