Mr Cesare Quarto
Consultant Cardiac Surgeon
A Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with over ten years experience in clinical cardiac surgery. Mr Quarto took up his current post as Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at The Royal Brompton Hospital in 2013.
A Consultant Cardio-thoracic surgeon, specialised in complex aortic procedures with a special interest in trans-catheter based procedures and in extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist devices (VAD).
During his training he worked alongside many leading consultants gaining a range of experience in both the UK and Italy. This has led to him to having extremely strong surgical numbers, particularly in the field of aortic surgery. Over the last 18 months he has focused on developing skills in catheter based procedures (for which he believes there is a strong future), currently managing one trans-cather aortic valve implantation (TAVI) list per fortnight. In addition he is involved in innovative procedures, such as trans- catheter mitral valve replacement. During training and time in the UK, he has been involved in mechanical heart support such as ECMO and VAD and in his current role he is part of 1:3 rota to support the VA-ECMO program.
Throughout his career he has published academic papers developing the field of cardiothoracic surgery. This is also reflected in his keen interest in training the next generation of cardiothoracic surgeons to engage in patient centred care.
