Antibody testing - next steps after booking confirmation

At a glance..

Once a patient has booked a date for our COVID 19 antibody blood test an invoice is generated and emailed to the patient with more information. This page contains more information about what can be expected.

Prior to your appointment..

In addition to full payment, the following must be arranged prior to the appointment:

Test Covid 19 Ab test Bronze Covid 19 Ab test Silver Covid Ab test Gold
Patient registration, consent and questionnaire Yes Yes Yes
COVID 19 Risk assessment No Yes Yes
Phone consultation appointment No No Yes

Our processes

Here are the steps in the process which we aim to complete within 2 working days in >95% of our COVID 19 Ab tests:

  1. Patient calls or books blood test online
  2. Patient attends for blood test on day of appointment.
  3. Blood sample is labelled up and sent across to our pathology lab with completed paperwork.
  4. Blood test is run by the pathology lab staff using the Abbott ELISA.
  5. Results sent to SCVC and paired up with patient record.
  6. Consultant reviews all data to produce a word-processed document, and Seroconversion certificate if tested +ve, along with any recommendations.
  7. Patient is sent feedback form and invited to feedback on experience.
  8. The patient's GP can be informed of result by the patient (as postal systems too slow for usto send), unless patient specifies to contrary.
  9. If further interval antibody testing has been recommended, the staff set recalls to send email reminders.

Please note that for our corporate packages there will be some variation in process - for example information sheets and self guidance instead of individual consultant reports.

Preparation and what you can expect?

Getting there

5 Huxley Road Surrey Research Park GU2 7RE is just off the A3 near Royal Surrey County Hospital -  Guildford Cathedral turn off

If you have any signs of active COVID 19 infection (fever >37.8 C or cough) please call to reschedule and  DO NOT attend as you will not be allowed to undergo testing.

On arrival

2. Call 01483 467100 to let our reception team know that you have arrived and remain in your car until instructed or called back.

If you cannot get through on the phone please enter the clinic however its bets that you do not enter our waiting area until 5 minutes before your appointment time, unless instructed to do so.

On entering our clinical area please either visit the WC to wash hands or use our handwash solutions near the door.

If you have not registered or paid you will be asked to do so at this point from within your car.

The test itself is a standard blood test from a vein.

Our nurse will call you into a clinical room.

She will be wearing basic personal protective equipment (PPE)  - a mask, plastic apron and will wash hands before and after your blood test, or may use gloves.

These will be changed between patients.

After the blood test, assuming you feel well (some people can feel faint and should sit or recline for a few minutes) please leave immediately, remembering to rewash hands or use alcohol gel on exit.

Results

You will receive results by email within 2 working days of the test in most cases.  The blood has to be sent to our lab and all your information collated. Individual tests are sent and reviewed by a consultant. The processes involved are shown above.
