COVID 19

Due to the viral pandemic SCVCs medical directors and staff have issued our own specialist medical guidance for our patients.

Find out more..

SCVC is offering several extra services for both our registered and new patients during the COVID 19 pandemic:

  1. A Consultant risk assessment to provide guidance on personal risk
  2. A FAQ page- where we post our answers to common enquiries
  3. Antibody blood testing service which we hope to launch (after testing) in April 20

Clinical services:

Providing we have sufficient staff to maintain safety, Surrey Cardiovascular Clinic will remain open, offering ‘safe haven’  private facilities for the large number of our cardiovascular patients requiring medical care and advice at a time when acute NHS services are become overstretched and increasingly unavailable as our NHS has priorities resources to manage sick patients that have contracted COVID 19 virus.

‘Safe Haven’ does not mean there is zero risk of COVID 19 transmission, it reflects the fact that unlike hospitals where COVID 19 cases are being cared for, we plan to operate outpatient-only facilities, putting into place some policies and do our utmost to provide a safe environment which we hope will allow us offer specialist care that has  a reduced risk of COVID 19 transmission to staff and patients.  Due to long incubation period of the COVID 19 virus and its infectiousness we cannot however guarantee that no persons will be infectious or become infected attending our clinic. The safest policy is thus for all patients, and especially those over 70 years of age or with heart failure to stay at home, self-isolate, obtain medical care by internet, phone or skype consultation.

We are therefore advising caution for all patients entering the clinic for tests or consultation.

In order to achieve our goal to remain open at reduced risk we have introduced policies to help protect patients and staff including:

  • Phone, Skype or whatsapp video conferencing to replace face to face consultation whenever possible to limit number of people visiting our sites.
  • Home working options for some of our staff via internet and phone links.
  • Car parking waiting area, so that patients can wait in their own car until called.
  • Routine temperature testing of all staff and patients 'at the door' from 23/3/2020
  • Our waiting area has fewer seats, all are >2 M apart.
  • All surfaces (including consulating room desks) and door handles are regularily every hour.
  • All papers and magazines are removed to prevent cross contamination.
  • Antibacterial gels and handwashing facilities are available in all rooms and waiting areas for all staff and patients across the clinic.
  • Daily deep clean using of all surfaces, anti-bacterial sanitisers across all clinical areas.
  • Staff policies in place from 21/3/2020  including home working,  changing into uniforms or theatre scrubs and self-isolation of any member of staff or consultant that may be infected by Coronavirus.

The medical directors are closely involved and busy with provision of secondary care at local hospitals and will continue to monitor the status across the UKs and local hospitals in order to issue guidance.
